Garden Consultations

Your abundant garden starts here.

Every Columbus Foodscapes garden begins with a 60-90 minute garden consultation. During this visit, we’ll learn about your vision, walk through the basics of organic edible gardening, and survey your space to understand what’s possible.

From there, we’ll dream up a plan for your edible landscape together. Whether you’re looking for a full garden installation, guidance for a DIY project, improvements to an existing garden, ongoing organic maintenance, or hands-on education, we’re here to support you every step of the way.

Feeling stuck about where to start with your garden?

Maybe you dream of growing food at home, but feel overwhelmed by questions like:

  • Where should the garden actually go?

  • Will this area get enough sun?

  • How do I make my space both beautiful and productive?

  • How big should the garden be?

  • What kind of beds or systems should I use?

  • What fruit trees should I plant?

Instead of guessing or spending years experimenting, a consultation can help you move forward with clarity and confidence.

During this 60-90 minute on-site garden consultation, we’ll walk your property together and talk through the opportunities and challenges of your space. You’ll receive practical guidance and ideas tailored specifically to your yard, your goals, and your lifestyle.

This session is designed to help you gain clarity, explore possibilities, and get a custom proposal put together for any additional services (like maintenance or installation) for your garden.

What to Expect During Your Consultation

Your garden consultation is a 60-90 minute, collaborative walk-through of your space where we explore ideas, opportunities, and practical next steps for your garden.

During our time together, we will typically:

  • Walk your property and observe sun exposure, drainage, and existing landscape conditions

  • Discuss your goals, vision, and how you hope to use your garden space

  • Explore potential locations and pros and cons for raised beds, in-ground gardens, or food-producing landscapes

  • Talk through plant ideas, ecological considerations, and growing strategies

  • Review irrigation possibilities and options

  • Brainstorm various layout possibilities, specific to your space, and infrastructure elements such as beds, trellises, paths, or irrigation

  • Review ways to incorporate or centralize ecological garden techniques like pollinator gardens or native plantings

  • Answer your questions and identify next steps that make sense for your timeline and budget

Every garden and homeowner is different, so each consultation is tailored to your specific space and goals.

Please note: this consultation focuses on guidance, ideas, and strategy. After our session, we follow up with a tailored-to-you Garden Proposal that includes a scope-of-work and estimates for any services discussed at our consultation like annual vegetable garden plans, formal designs, and maintenance & installation services.

What This Consultation Is (and Isn’t)

This consultation is a 60–90 minute in-person conversation and walkthrough of your property where we discuss ideas, evaluate conditions, and explore possible directions for your garden.

This session does not include written plans, drawings, formal garden designs, or maintenance or installation services. Clients who are ready to move forward with additional services receive a detailed proposal after the consultation for any additional services.

What You’ll Leave With

By the end of the consultation, most clients walk away with:

  • Clear ideas about where raised bed, native, herb, pollinator, and other gardens could go

  • Insight into sun, soil, and growing conditions

  • Guidance on garden size and layout possibilities

  • Suggestions for plants and growing strategies

  • Strategies for managing pests, diseases, and animal intrusions in the garden

  • Next steps for moving forward

  • A rough sketch of bed layouts and infrastructure elements like patios or arbors

Most importantly, you’ll leave with confidence and direction for your space.

After Your Garden Consultation

If you decide you'd like additional support bringing your garden to life, we’re happy to help.

Following your consultation, we can provide a Garden Proposal outlining recommended next steps for your space. This proposal includes estimated pricing and scope of work for any services you may be interested in, such as:

  • Formal garden design plans

  • Garden installation

  • Raised bed construction and placement

  • Garden “fix-ups” or improvements to existing spaces

  • Planting out your garden with food, pollinator, and ecological plants
