  • FEEL SO MUCH MORE CONFIDENT

    ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

Columbus Foodscapes is AMAZING! Katie is filled with so much knowledge and ability to support. I was not really sure what I was signing up for, but I felt heard, supported, and seen. I felt really lost within my garden - I bought a house that came with raised beds and then I jumped in. I was proud of my 2 zuccinies. BUT then I found Katie. Because of Katie, I had the most fruitful year of my garden so far and felt waaaay more confident in the dirt.

  • ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY FOR BEGINNER GARDENERS

    ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

“Working with Columbus Foodscapes on my first vegetable garden was a fantastic experience. I had attempted to do some cursory research on my own but was quickly overwhelmed with conflicting information, and even information titled “for beginners” left me feeling lost as to where to start. Enter CFS! I transformed from a person who killed succulents to a person maintaining a fruitful garden. I get excited each day to go check and see what has grown overnight. I can definitively say I would have given up attempting to garden if it weren’t for their help.”

  • SO EASY TO WORK WITH

    ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

Columbus Foodscapes helped me grow my own vegetables! Love the way that Katie, the owner, cares so much about gardening, growing, and treating plants with care and love. She was knowledgable and open (and so non-judgmental about my lack of a green thumb) about my garden plans and helped me plan out and build a garden that I want!

  • WE LOVE OUR NEW VEGETABLE GARDEN

    ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

My wife and I have always wanted a small, easily manageable vegetable garden for our Worthington home but didn’t know where to begin. Upon contacting Columbus Foodscapes, Katie introduced us to a variety of options that fit with our vision for a garden, and we ultimately decided on a single raised bed housing nine tomato and cherry tomato plants plus a variety of herbs. Once installed, Katie was extremely helpful and clear about how best to care for the garden. Our harvest through the Summer and Fall was more than enough for our family and we were even able to share tomatoes and herbs with friends and neighbors! Everything was reasonably priced, and we look forward to consulting with Columbus Foodscapes in preparation for the coming Spring.

  • BEAUTIFUL RAISED BEDS INSTALLED, PLUS GARDEN COACHING!

    ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

Columbus Foodscapes installed raised bed gardens, helped me choose which plants I could grow for Fall planting and helped me plants seeds & small plants. Our Garden Coach, Katie, will continue to help & advise me through the Fall, then return when it's time to plant again!

  • GARDEN COACHING IS GREAT

    ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

We hired Columbus Foodscapes last spring (2025) to install drip irrigation for ten elevated garden beds (and some surrounding areas), and to provide advice regarding what vegetables to plant and where. Katie was both knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with. Her enthusiasm is delightful. She and her crew put in the irrigation system in a timely fashion and explained to us how best to use it. Weeks later, as questions arose, Katie was quick to respond with answers. We'd be happy to work with her again if our gardening needs more expert help.

  • CAN'T RECOMMEND ENOUGH

    ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

My husband and I had bought our first home and were very excited to have a yard of our own with enough room to grow our own herbs and veggies. With little to no experience doing this before, it was important to me to learn how to do it the right way. Katie came over to our house, assessed the best location for the garden based on what we wanted to grow and the amount of sunlight parts of our yard received. After the bed was built Katie provided guidance on how many different foods we could grow, when we should plant them, and where in the bed they should be planted in relationship to everything else. Her expertise and coaching made the whole process a wonderful & educational experience and we are now in love with our garden! I highly recommend using Columbus Foodscapes because there is nothing better than cooking with fresh herbs and veggies right from your backyard!

  • CONSIDERED OUR FREE-RANGE CHICKENS

    ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

Columbus Foodscapes helped design our front yard. She listened to what we wanted and provided us a plan that took everything into account, including picking plants that wouldn't hurt our free-range chickens. We're super excited to get started transforming our yard!

FAQs

  • A foodscape is a landscape that produces food. Similar design principles can be used in foodscapes as in landscapes, like color, texture, size, and accounting for existing landscape elements and structures.

When we say the word “foodscape” we specifically mean raised bed kitchen gardens (gardens in boxes, elevated from the ground that grow food), and perennial in-ground gardens (gardens not in raised beds in which the crops grow back year after year, like raspberries or grapes).

  • We design, install, and maintain kitchen gardens (elevated raised bed gardens) and edible landscapes (in-ground, perennial gardens). We also teach people about how to grow food and maintain their edible gardens through The Columbus Backyard Garden Club and group classes & workshops.

  • Our training and expertise is specific to vegetable gardens, so we generally decline requests to maintain non-food gardens. However, we often include flowers in our designs and are happy to work with existing ornamental landscaping to ensure compatibility.

  • We offer over 80 varieties of fruits and vegetables, carefully selected for size, color, ease-of-growing, and other factors (you can check out the list of our most popular fruits, vegetables, and herbs in our Columbus Foodscapes Planting Calendar).

In larger gardens, we often plant perennial crops that come back year after year like strawberries or asparagus. Our gardens often include a combination of edible flowers, herbs, vegetables, and fruits.

  • The cost of new garden installations range very widely depending on factors like size, square footage, plant selection, material selection, level of installation, and more.

We are happy to work within your budget to help you reach your goal.

  • Of course! Most of our clients enjoy at our maintenance services at least quarterly, and we also offer one-on-one garden coaching to help you learn about how to grow food in your garden. Many of our clients are brand-new gardeners. You’d be surprised how much you can learn in your time with us!

  • We serve all of Franklin County including Columbus and the surrounding suburbs and neighborhoods (Dublin, Worthington, Hillard, Gahanna, Bexley, New Albany, Grove City, etc). For areas outside of our service area, we charge a modest transportation fee for consultations and services.

  • Yes! Flowers add beauty and provide wonderful function for your garden by attracting pollinators like bees and butterflies. We love to include edible flowers to plantings (they add a gorgeous pop on salads) and cut flowers for bouquets.

  • You can grow food even on the teeniest patio, as long as there’s enough sun! Generally, the smallest garden we’ve installed is around 15 square feet; we also can help with patio and potted gardens, which tend to be much smaller than raised bed gardens.

  • Absolutely! If you have a vegetable garden already that just needs a little help troubleshooting and TLC, we can get you started with a new garden consultation. If you’re wanting additional support beyond that initial meeting, we can put together a custom proposal for organic garden miantenance, garden coaching packages, and more to help you transform your space into a magical (and delicious!) oasis!
